Open job advertisements vs hand-picking candidates, the recruitment process, interviewing, psychometric tests, negotiations… you could talk all day long about the many fascinating facets of the hiring process.
The one area I find most interesting is the person at the heart of it all: the potential employee, so I thought I’d share what it is I look for when seeking new people to join The House of ASHISH VIJAY.
One of the main things is the person’s hunger. And while a pang of hunger for success is always a good thing, it goes deeper than that. I look for a hunger to learn and build on their existing knowledge, a hunger to achieve, not only for the business but for themselves and their personal development.
I don’t do traditional face-to-face Q&A interviews but instead prefer to just sit down for an informal chat and have a conversation about them, their ideas, their outlook, and their personality. I want to hear their thoughts on their personal and business ethics, as well as their definition of responsibility and what the concept means to them.
Finally, and most importantly, I like to delve into their creative side. Even if the role I’m interviewing for might not traditionally be considered a ‘creative’ one, I’ve learned over the years that creativity is a vital component at every level and in every position.
The creativity of humans is very unique. Every problem has a solution and the right person will be creative enough to find that solution as it pertains to your business. Creativity is vital to success.
