Some might want to learn to paint, sing, learn another language or play an instrument. Others might set their sights on scaling Everest or starting a business.

While these are all wonderful ambitions to have, they all share one thing in common in that they each require a high level of external factors, things like special equipment, expert tuition or money.

All of which is why the skill I would like to master is the ability to better connect to myself. What I enjoy about having this as an ambition is its inclusivity – it’s a goal that is accessible to everyone on the planet. You don’t need any equipment, tuition, or cash. You just need you.

For me, connecting to myself means tuning into and being aware of my thoughts. Perhaps it’s appropriate for someone who works with precious stones and metals, but I view my innermost thoughts as a goldmine I can visit as often as I like and take from it what I choose. Obviously, the mastery here comes from learning to take only the good thoughts and leave the negative behind.

What I like about this skill is that it’s a journey I’m on for the rest of my life. Yes, I might press pause occasionally when life does what it does and gets in the way of things, but it’s something I can always come back to and which I know will welcome my return.

I challenge you to take some time this weekend – and it could be as little as five minutes – to connect with yourself and see what’s in your own personal goldmine.

Note: The image is an AI impression of connecting to yourself and the universe within each of us.
